“On GST collections if you see over the previous three months there has been consistent improvement. On the sidelines of the event, minister of state for finance Anurag Singh Thakur said GST collections were improving. Somanathan called for civil accounts officers to be more responsive and to make sure there were no delays in payments from their end. “There is a long way to go with regards to the non-civil accounts, the integration of the PFMS with the railways, defence and post need to be taken forward,” Somanathan said.
However, further improvements in the system are needed. “The PFMS has facilitated payment (of Rs 50,000 crore] under the PM Kisan scheme to over 8.46 crore beneficiaries directly to their bank accounts,” Somanathan said while speaking at the event. Praising the system for enhancing the quality of government expenditure, expenditure secretary TV Somanathan said the difference between the audited and unaudited accounts of the government had consistently been lower than 1%.
“Through the PFMS system, till date Rs 6.29 lakh crore has been disbursed directly into beneficiary bank accounts under various union and state government schemes,” controller general of accounts Soma Roy Burman said. It is also used to transfer funds to beneficiary accounts of various government schemes via DBT. The PFMS is the management information system used by officers of the Indian Civil Accounts Service to maintain the accounts of the government.
